Agriculture

Cost-effective long term continuous measurement of CO2

What is Agriculture?

Agriculture is the practice of farming, including the cultivation of soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, wool, and other products. Agriculture was the key development in the rise of sedentary human civilization, whereby the farming of domesticated species created food surpluses that enabled people to live in cities.

The rise of modern technology in the past few centuries has been both a blessing and a curse as it has sharply increased yields, while also causing widespread ecological and environmental damage, including contributing to global warming, deforestation, antibiotic resistance, and growth hormones in industrial meat production.

At Edinburgh Sensors, we understand the power that our gas sensing technology has in assisting the productivity of agriculture, making the lives of many farmers a lot easier and allowing us keep up with growing food demands.

How are Gas Sensors used within Agriculture?

Gas sensors are essential within the agricultural industry for a number of applications. To find out more about sensors used in agriculture and just a few of their uses, why not follow the links and have a read of the corresponding application notes / blog posts from Edinburgh Instruments:

  • Commercial greenhouse control systems measure and control temperature and Carbon Dioxide concentration for optimal crop growth. Our low range CO2 Guardian NG is designed for long term continuous measurement of CO2 and is a cost effective solution.
  • Carbon dioxide concentrations must be monitored in Pig and Poultry farming during the process of gas stunning. The Gascard NG is widely used to detect CO2 in Pig and Poultry processing applications where high concentrations of CO2 are used.
  • The Anaerobic Digestion process in the production of biogas relies on early gas detection through carbon dioxide and methane sensing:
